Comment on Creating an Introduction to Data Course (or, perhaps, Data Translation for Working on Data Science Teams, “Digital Literacy with a Maker Spirit”) by Dhanashree Thorat http://florida2014.thatcamp.org/2014/02/11/creating-an-introduction-to-data-course-or-perhaps-data-translation-for-working-on-data-science-teams-digital-literacy-with-a-maker-spirit/#comment-912 Sat, 15 Feb 2014 01:49:51 +0000 http://florida2014.thatcamp.org/?p=124#comment-912 This would be a neat conversation to have. The Columbia course looks interesting. I think the instructors who teach the course would have to pitch it in a way so students don’t feel that data = statistics. It could be a great co-taught, interdisciplinary course.

Comment on Got Data? by Larry Davis http://florida2014.thatcamp.org/2014/02/07/got-data/#comment-901 Thu, 13 Feb 2014 17:12:42 +0000 http://florida2014.thatcamp.org/?p=106#comment-901 Thanks Patrick – I love the idea for this session! I strongly encourage history lovers who may not think of themselves as code/data geeks to join us. Ultimately, we have to structure the data and present it so that it’s useful, and not just geek-tastic 😉

Comment on Charles Brockden Brown archive and TEI encoding by Dhanashree Thorat http://florida2014.thatcamp.org/2014/02/07/charles-brockden-brown-archive-and-tei-coding/#comment-859 Mon, 10 Feb 2014 19:50:44 +0000 http://florida2014.thatcamp.org/?p=115#comment-859 This sounds like an exciting session! I have become quite interested in archives recently, and particularly the intersection of archives, ideology, and power. Interface design and metadata (apart from the ‘content’ of the archive) are very much a part of the ideology of an archive. Looking forward to talking to you all.
